Allan Poxton

Allan Poxton is a self taught artist based in Torquay. As a child he had a passion for drawing and painting, where his talent was recognised throughout his school years. He decided not to follow his creative calling and pursue a career in engineering. Over the years Allan felt himself becoming a viewer rather than a creator.

A few years ago Allan decided he wanted to create sculptures. He has always had a keen interest in sports and anatomy, thus he decided to explore the human form as his subject matter. He later went on to explore animal forms as his focus, with a keen interest in horses.
Allan finds that the human form and horses give him so much to work with. He finds both to have fantastic structures and lots of detail to work with. He begins with a wire base skeleton then layers on the details to build the piece. He works with steel, copper, clay and wax along with bronze casting.
