Award winning outdoor theatre company Illyria will bring their fabulous productions of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, The Tempest and Frankenstein to Cockington Court this summer.

The summer opener is Ali-Baba and the Forty Thieves on 4 August, one of Illyria’s funniest and most popular ever family shows.

Young Ali Baba stumbles across an enchanted cave when he overhears the magic words that open it: “Open Sesame!”

Inside the cave he finds untold amounts of gold and jewels, and takes some of it home to show his wife. But what will he do when she chides him for stealing? Can he keep the secret from his jealous brother? And when the Robber King comes looking for the missing treasure supported by an army of 40 angry thieves –will he and his family survive?

Marissa Wakefield, Cockington Court Centre Director, says: “It’s fantastic to have Illyria back at Cockington Court again this year. Every year they wow us and the audiences with their fun-filled performances. We can’t wait to have them here in over the summer.”

Oliver Gray, Illyria’s Artistic Director, says: “Illyria has given more performances to more people across a wider area than any other open-air touring theatre company. We’re really pleased to be performing at Cockington Court and can’t wait see how the audience reacts.”

Now in its 28th year, Illyria has delighted audiences the length and breadth of the UK, and in the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, France, the United States and Canada, performing some of the well-loved productions on offer.

The company has won four international performance awards and attracted numerous 5-star and Critics' Choice reviews for its approach to Shakespeare's plays.

Illyria’s fast and furious madcap style is popular for the whole family, from theatre devotees to live performance newcomers.

The Tempest and Frankenstein will both be performed at Cockington Court this summer on the 22 August and 1 September respectively. For more details visit
